ETU Aquathlon European Championship to be carried out during Rheinauhafen Triathlon Köln as part of the Willpower.Races. Series

Cologne, March 11, 2014. The ETU Aquathlon European Championship will take place in Cologne for the second time, on May 31, 2014, on the Rheinauhafen. The Aquathlon European Championship was held at the Fühlinger See in 2011, but for the second edition of these championships, organizer Jeschke & Friends has decided for the downtown location. "The Aquathlon European Championship will be integrated into the popular Rheinauhafen Triathlon Köln, which is part of the Willpower.Races.-Series," said Uwe Jeschke. "Saturday there will be a pure Aquathlon and then on Sunday the triathletes will start in their usual three disciplines."

The German Triathlon Union is also happy that the European Championship has been awarded to Cologne. "The Aquathlon European Championship will be held in a great location at the Cologne Rheinauhafen," explained director Matthias Zöll. "It is a good sign that the Jeschke & Friends organizational team successfully applied for and received this European Championship after problems over the last few years, which have fortunately been solved. It is also proof that everyone in the triathlon scene is working hard to promote triathlon and all multi-sports in Germany."

For Elite and age-group athletes, the "Standard Aquathlon" distance will be offered, of 2.5 km running, 1 km swimming and another 2.5 km running. If the water in the Rhine has a temperature under 22°C, the so-called "cold water" variation will be used, which is a swim and run with 1 km swimming and 5 km running.

A total of 6,000 Euros in prize money will be awarded to the Elite starters. Registration for the European Championship must be made through the national triathlon federation. Like the pros, the age-class athletes must start in official national kit (which can be ordered from the national federation), with the German participants wearing the DTU one-piece suit. It is also possible to register over the event home page, www.rheinauhafentriathlonkoeln.de

The downtown Rheinauhafen Triathlon Köln will then take place for the second time on the next day. Like last year, there will be four distances to choose from. Triathlon beginners can try out the Supersprint or Sprint distances, and for the more advanced athletes, we offer the Olympic and 58 distances. In addition, the kids will be in action again, too. And the Cologne city championship will be held on the Olympic distance.

The Distances:
