Svoboda und Kitchen triumphieren in Köln

Köln, 27.06.2015. Bei optimalen Bedingungen sind heute rund 200 Athleten an den Start der Cologne ETU Aquathlon European Championships gegangen. Die Europameisterschaft ist der Auftakt des DKMS Rheinauhafen Triathlon in Kooperation mit dem ASV Köln. Der Tscheche Tomas Svoboda sicherte sich den Europameistertitel. 29:30 Minuten brauchte Svoboda für die Distanz aus 1 Kilometer Schwimmen und 5 Kilometer Laufen. Rund 8 Sekunden später lief nach 2014 erneut Dmytro Malyar (UKR) als Zweiter durchs Ziel. Sergiy Kurochkin komplettierte das Podium; bei 29:49 Minuten blieb die Uhr für den Ukrainer im Ziel stehen.

Bei den Frauen war die Britin Hannah Kitchen die schnellste Athletin des Tages. Die Zweiplatzierte von 2014 brauchte 33:39 Minuten für die Strecke. Auf den Plätzen 2 und 3 folgten die Slovenin Jana Koradej (34:03 min) und die Tschechin Jitka Simakova (34:17).

Die Aquathlon Europameisterschaft fand in diesem Jahr zum dritten Mal in Köln und zum zweiten Mal im Rheinauhafen statt. Das empfinden wir als Auszeichnung für unsere Arbeit und als Aufwertung für den Triathlonsport in Köln", sagt Veranstalter Uwe Jeschke. ?Insgesamt standen 200 Sportler aus 18 Nationen bei uns am Start. Das sind 50 Athleten mehr als im Vorjahr."

Neben den Elite-Athleten haben viele U23-Athleten, Junioren, Age-Grouper und Para-Aquathleten an der Veranstaltung teilgenommen. Großbritannien war genau wie im Vorjahr wieder die teilnehmerstärkste Nation.

Aquathlon: Svoboda and Kitchen win in Cologne

Cologne, 27.06.2015. About 200 athletes have been at the start of the Cologne ETU Aquathlon European Championships. Tomas Svoboda (CZE) has won the european titel. He needed 29:30 minutes for the distance of 1 kilometer swimming and 5 kilometer running. 8 seconds later Dmytro Malyar from Ukraine reached as second the finishline. Sergiy Kurochkin was the third man on the podium.

Hannah Kitchen from Great Britain was the fastest woman of the day. She needed 33:39 minutes for the distance. On place two and three have been Jana Koradej (SLO) and Jitka Simakova (CZE).
